OSC held its first social gathering of 2022, with a “Spring Supper” on Saturday 19th March 2022. Our after-dinner speaker was Candy Masters, talking about her incredible sailing trips aboard Endeavor across the world.

Dinner is served, with a choice for a delicious 2-course meal
David and Candy and their fine ship ‘Endeavor’ were the recipients of the Seven Seas Award. It is not an award given lightly or indeed every year. Previous winners are a role call of all the greatest names in Cruising Sailing … Smeeton, Pardey, Hiscock, Roth … it is only given to the very best.
David and Candy totally rebuilt their 1962 steel yawl ‘Endeavor’ (including replacing 30% of the plating over a period of approximately 15 years), and after a few shake-down cruises sailed her from Seattle around Cape Horn, out to Ascension Island, back and forth on the Atlantic seaboard, north via Iceland to Ireland, Scotland, Norway and beyond.
Along the way they wrote, mentored many sailors, and worked as crew, shipwrights, canvas workers, and master ships carpenters. They also delivered mail!
While in Patagonia, they did a special charter with National Geographic taking a camera crew to waters rarely explored, and published articles. They were true experts at high-latitude sailing.
Candy needs no introduction to Orford Sailing Club. Candy lost David in 2018. This year Candy plans to leave the UK and sail her ship back across Atlantic.
We will not only miss Candy enormously, but also her incredible knowledge of all things nautical.
