Adult Training

All our courses are taught in small boats which are easy to handle and light to launch. There are several introductory short sessions, early in the season, which offer a taster of this sport before making any further commitments.

There will be an RYA Level 1 / 2 course running across two weekends in July and August.  These are full days.

RYA Level 1

Introducing you to sailing with all you need to know to get afloat under supervision

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE

None

MINIMUM DURATION

2 Full Days or 4 Half Days

How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

Able to sail in light winds under supervision

RYA Level 2

Setting out the foundations of sailing for you

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE

Sailing skills to the standard of Level 1

MINIMUM DURATION

2 Full Days or 4 Half Days

COURSE CONTENT

Rigging, launching, Sailing in all directions. Capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

Able to sail and make decisions in good conditions

RYA Level 3

Consolidating skills and trying new ones

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE

Sailing skills to the standard of Level 2

MINIMUM DURATION

2 Full Days or 4 Half Days

Coaching of level 1 and 2 skills and taster sessions from the advanced modules

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

More confident in Sailing skills and techniques, and ready to progress onto the advanced modules

RYA Start Racing Course

The fundamentals of racing

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE

Sailing and knowledge to at least Level 2 (adult).

MINIMUM DURATION

2 Full Days or 4 Half Days

COURSE CONTENT

All the skills to start racing, including how to maximize boat speed.  How to Start and how to complete a course.

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

Able to take part in racing in good conditions.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

Pre-entry Sailing Assessment with an RYA. Dinghy Coach Assessor. Adopt the RYA teaching methods. Introduction to many standardised teaching techniques.

To Instruct RYA Courses within an RYA Recognised Training Centre.

COURSE CONTENT

Emergency resuscitation and basic First Aid with an emphasis on water sports.

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

The certificate is valid for 3 years after which time it expires.

Sailing Skills to Level 3 Standard

COURSE CONTENT

Launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances e.g. windward and leeward shores.
Stopping, reducing sail e.g. reefing. Recovering a man overboard. Anchoring. Towing. Rope work.

ABILITY AFTER COURSE

Able to handle a wide range of situations afloat.
