On Saturday 22nd August the Team Racing Event made a return to the club after a number of years of being blown off. Four two boat teams eagerly gathered in the club house to learn about Team Racing and all it entails. After a briefing and quick rundown of the rules and tactics two teams set out in identically rigged RS Fevas to sail the boats down to the course area at Raydon, whilst the other teams had the luxury of motoring down on Cornelia. Team Alde and Team Butley battled it out first before swapping out with Team Chantry and Team Dove who were ferried from the yacht into the RS Fevas by the safety boat. Races were short and sweet consisting of 2 laps around a triangle course and lasting about 10-15mins. The event ran as a round robin with every team competiting in 3 races each. With scores incredibly tight and the final results coming down to points on a count back Team Butley eventually came through victorious! Particular thanks must go to Chris Gill for his great support of the event and his hospitalitiy to all the racers and some spectators who had a waterside seat from onbaord his yacht! Don’t worry if you just missed out this year as we hope to be able to run this event again next summer to give even more sailors the chance to experience a new and exciting form of highly tactical dinghy racing!
