![]() Felixstowe and River Orwell River Orwell Cruise, Sunday 30 MayOur first cruise this year was to the River Orwell and Ipswich.
Members sailed from the Ore (and some from the Deben) on Sunday. There
were strong winds forecast (NW F5-7), but with an offshore wind the sea
was flat on the Orford bar and the Deben bar. We had a great sail down
the coast in Alocin, followed by a tack up through Harwich harbour. We
had to motor above Levington as it was head to wind, and the Orwell
proved to be very choppy with wind against tide. We locked in to Ipswich and berthed in Ipswich Haven
Marina, which was very friendly. After drinks on board Alocin, we
walked round the docks for dinner at the Loch Fyne
Restaurant, where some twenty members got the season under way in style! On Monday, we had an early
start from Ipswich to get back to Orford before HW at Orford Haven.
Monday was much quieter, with a good run down the Orwell, but by the
time we got to Bawdsey the wind had veered and we were head to wind
again for the last couple of miles. Overall, a great weekend. David Barnwell, OSC Cruiser Captain Cruiser Race and OSC Regatta Day, Saturday 21 AugustBriefing in the Clubhouse at 0930, followed by the Cruiser Race for the Barry Cup at 1400 and the Commodore’s Sailpast at 1700. This year, the race is on the ebb tide so we’ll have to watch the depth! Tides: Blackwater Cruise, Monday 6 SeptemberCruise to the River Blackwater during the week.
